Love Letters to the Lower East Side

In December, we told you about a remarkable gift of family photographs donated to the Tenement Museum by Eva Silverman. We’re excited to share more of these Lower East Side “Love Letters” with you today, just in time for Valentine’s Day. We hope you enjoy them!

Our neighborhood has undergone some profound changes since these photos were taken in the 1960’s and 70’s by Allan Silverman (Eva’s uncle). And yet these images are recent enough that many New Yorkers will recognize and remember this version of the Lower East Side.
