Last year the Tenement Museum welcomed over 56,000 schoolchildren, many of them New York City public school students living the immigrant experience themselves.
The Museum offers these children from diverse backgrounds opportunities to make connections between their own experiences and the struggles and triumphs of past immigrants. Through age-appropriate tours and activities, students come to understand America as a nation of immigrants, and see their own family stories as a part of the American story.
When asked, 98% of Teachers said they would bring students back to the Museum. All Tenement Museum school programs are integrated with classroom curricula and meet New York State learning standards.
