Economy Candy

Licorice, Charleston Chews, and M&M’s in all their colors… oh my! If you have a craving for candy and you are not sure of what you want, head over to Economy Candy. Economy Candy, open since 1937, provides low prices, good service, and a variety of flavors in a sea full of colorful wrappers.

This candy haven is more than just a mom and pop store. According to Jerry Cohen, who now runs the store along with his wife Eileen, “the shop used to be located on the corner …and we have seen the neighborhood go through some good changes.” For Jerry Cohen the store holds a lot of memories and he recalls visiting and working there regularly after school with his father. So it’s no surprise that Jerry has remained a familiar face in the neighborhood and the driving force behind Economy Candy.

Now both kids and adults can share in the candy experience of finding favorites at their fingertips in this fantasyland stocked full of jelly beans, Razzles, Push Pops, Wack-O-Wax, Nerds, Big League Chews, Starburst, and of course the almighty PEZ and Giant PEZ dispenser. Candy buffs, be sure to taste the Halvahs, Turkish Delight, and chocolate covered graham crackers while you are trying to decide what to buy.

Economy Candy is the ultimate sugar fiend’s best friend with a huge selection of imported chocolate bars such as Feodora, la Noir, and Excellence for connoisseurs; while the all time favorite of gummy bears, gummy worms, and Swedish fish are also available to delight little tummies. Name any candy you can think of and they probably have it. Even employees (all neighborhood locals) are surprised.“I was shocked at all the candy available here, and that’s a good thing there is always something new coming in, and we get to taste it” said Joelisa Penã.

If you are looking for something a bit healthier or you have less of a sweet tooth, no need to worry. You can indulge in an assortment of natural snacks. The shelves of Economy Candy are lined with hazelnuts, almonds, cashews, wasabi peas, dried strawberries, figs, prunes, mangos, cherries and guava.

No wonder customers have been faithfully depending on Economy Candy for the last 68 years. Open 7 days a week this candy store also has a mail order website www.economycandy.com so you can candy shop even when you aren’t in the neighborhood. Need we say more?
